THE STORY

Canada’s Group of Seven painters were unique in their process, trekking into the wilds of Ontario to set up their easels. Their goal was not so much to paint landscapes, but rather to capture the essence of the experience – the cool of the wind, the play of light on trees, the massive skies. To achieve this, they would often paint quick, small “snapshot” paintings which would later be embellished in the comfort of their studios.

With these murals, Muskoka Artist Tim Webb has imagined a moment wherein, had a photographer followed The Group out into their natural settings to capture their process, this might be how some of those images looked. These fleeting moments of creativity captured on canvas by these groundbreaking artists have become icons of Canadian Art history and our National Identity.

The Snapshots mural is brought to you by the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce through funding provided by the Canadian Heritage Foundation to celebrate 125 Years of Tourism in Huntsville.
